The “Foster Closet” is a shop in Dayton, Virginia filled with all of the necessities needed free of cost to foster and kinship families. Many of the items in the shop are donated by the community – preloved, but still full of life – some even still have tags! If the item must be purchased new or we don’t have it, we use money raised by our donors to purchase those items. We welcome any foster or kinship family to make an appointment to visit the shop to pick out their own items, or we’re happy to personal shop for you and load them into your car out front. - Clothing / Shoes / Socks / Undergarments / Diapers: All sizes
- Car Seats: Unopened, in box or new-with-tags
- Baby Formula: All varieties
- Baby / Toddler Equipment: Bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers, diaper bags, high chairs, pack n’ plays, etc.
- School Supplies: Notebooks, pens/pencils, crayons, markers, scissors, construction paper, glue, activity/coloring books, workbooks, craft kids, etc.
- Health & Wellness Products: Toothpaste, shampoo / conditioner, deodorant, baby lotion, diaper rash ointment, wipes, soap, body wash, feminine products, etc.
Donation of Gently Used Items:
- Clothing/Shoes: All sizes (preemie to teenagers)
- We ask that all clothes be washed and free of stains/tears/odors/holes and do not contain any wording that says “mom” or “dad.” If you would donate these items to your friends, we would love to have them
- Baby Equipment: All functional equipment (pack ‘n plays, high chairs, booster seats, diaper bags, etc.).
- Diapers/Wipes: All sizes; unopened packages only
- Bedding: All sizes; washed and free of stains/tears/odors/holes
- Toys/Books: All ages; functional with all parts / pieces
Regretfully, we cannot accept the following:
- Mattresses
- Stuffed toys / animals
- Used car seats (legal reasons)
